(Be) Ready

for any crisis

Emergency preparedness for hospitals and health systems.

We help healthcare organizations assess readiness, strengthen contingency plans, and test response capability for disasters, outbreaks, and mass casualty events.

A person smiling and holding a blue object

COVID-19 exposed how quickly health systems can be overwhelmed. Future outbreaks are inevitable, making preparedness essential to protect lives and maintain hospital operations.

Armed conflicts and security threats are increasingly close to home. Hospitals must be ready to function during mass casualty events and prolonged disruptions.

Extreme weather, industrial accidents, and infrastructure failures are occurring more frequently. Health facilities must remain operational when systems are stressed.

National and international frameworks require hospitals to plan for emergencies.  Beyond compliance, readiness directly improves patient safety and quality of care during crises.

Who we help

We work with organizations responsible for keeping hospitals operational during crises. That includes preparedness for disasters, outbreaks, conflict-related disruption, mass casualty events, and other emergencies that place pressure on health systems.

What we offer

Our services are designed to meet hospitals where they are, adapting to local realities, risk profiles, and resources to build practical and sustainable readiness.

Readiness Assessment

What it is
A structured, evidence-based assessment of a hospital’s ability to function during emergencies and disasters.

Scope

  • Review of infrastructure, engineering, and critical systems

  • Assessment of emergency, critical care, operative pathways, and surge capacity

  • Identification of priority risks and gaps using a standardized readiness checklist.

Contingency Planning & Strengthening

What it is
A deeper engagement focused on strengthening or developing hospital contingency plans aligned with identified risks.

Scope

  • Review and revision of existing contingency and emergency plans

  • Development or redesign of hazard-specific or all-hazards plans

  • Creation of SOPs, action cards, coordination and communication tools

  • Alignment with national and international preparedness frameworks

Preparedness Testing & Training

What it is
Validation of readiness through simulation exercises and targeted training for hospital teams.

Scope

  • Table-top or functional simulation exercises (including mass casualty scenarios)

  • Optional drills adapted to hospital capacity and risk profile

  • Managerial and clinical training for coordination, triage, and emergency care

  • Post-exercise analysis and refinement of plans

How we typically start

We often begin with a focused engagement designed to identify key risks, test assumptions, and define practical next steps. These entry points help hospitals and health-sector partners move quickly from interest to action.

Rapid Hospital Readiness Review

A focused assessment of how prepared a hospital is to function during emergencies and disruptions.

Best for
Hospitals that need a clear picture of current readiness, priority gaps, and immediate actions.

What you get

  • structured readiness review

  • priority findings and key risks

  • practical recommendations

  • a clear basis for next-step planning

Format
Short targeted engagement

Mass Casualty Preparedness Diagnostic

A targeted review of plans, coordination, surge arrangements, and decision-making for mass casualty incidents.

Best for
Hospitals or networks that want to strengthen preparedness for sudden patient influx and multi-agency response.

What you get

  • review of current MCI arrangements

  • identification of operational gaps

  • recommendations on triage, coordination, and surge

  • priorities for plan refinement or simulation

Format
Focused diagnostic with practical outputs

Selected projects

Ukraine - Emergency Preparedness for Disasters and Mass Casualty Events

Year: 2020 – 2023

Partners: Ministry of Health

The project focused on evaluating hospital infrastructure and emergency response capabilities, strengthening preparedness systems, and supporting implementation through training and simulation exercises. Key activities included building the capacity of healthcare professionals, improving emergency response protocols, and using simulation-based exercises to test, validate, and refine response plans. By strengthening both pre-hospital and hospital preparedness, the project helped improve the resilience, coordination, and effectiveness of emergency medical response systems.
